Nemo Switchback Insulated Sleeping Pad

Closed-cell foam pads have always had a reputation for durability and simplicity, and the NEMO Switchback earns that reputation while adding a level of comfort and packability that sets it apart from every other foam pad on the market.

The hexagonal node pattern is the foundation of what makes the Switchback work. Each node is moulded from dual-density Axiotomic foam, with a supple outer layer for comfort and a resilient core for support, and the hexagonal geometry allows the nodes to nest tighter when folded, producing a packed size that's meaningfully smaller than a conventional foam pad at the same thickness. The taller nodes also create more uncompressed space for sleeping bag insulation to loft into, trapping warmth around the body more effectively. A metalized thermal reflective film layer adds another layer of heat retention, contributing to a three-season R-value of 2 without adding significant weight.

At 14.5 ounces, the Switchback works as a standalone pad for ultralight backpacking and canoe tripping across Canada, and it pairs well under an air pad for additional insulation in colder conditions. The folding panel design sets up and packs away in seconds with no inflation required, making it the most dependable option when simplicity and durability matter more than anything else.
